The Forte Ax represents a genuine synthesis of two great axe-making traditions. Designer Benjamin Bouchard has drawn from the best of classical American and Italian woodworking axes to create a tool that performs equally well whether you're splitting firewood, carving, or crafting.

Design Philosophy

This is not a compromise tool—it's a purposeful integration of proven design elements. The broad, mildly curved bit takes inspiration from traditional Italian axes, making accurate strikes intuitive even for those new to axe work. A pronounced beard allows you to choke up on the handle for precise carving and detail work, while the deeply penetrating bit geometry excels at chopping and splitting tasks.

• C60/1060 medium carbon steel (57 HRC hardness)
• Superior to standard C55 steel in both hardness and strength
• Concave high centerline acts as a chip-breaker for cleaner splits
• Smooth bit-to-eye transition reduces fatigue during extended use

• American Appalachian hickory wood handle
• Large slip-fit eye allows wedge-free handle replacement
• Effective swell at the knob ensures secure grip in relaxed hands
• 22 inches long, weighing 3 lbs—light enough to pack, substantial enough for serious work
