Advanced match-grade hunting bullets with Heat Shield tip technology that resists aerodynamic heating. Delivers controlled expansion from close range to 400+ yards with 50-90% weight retention and deep penetration.
The Hornady ELD-X represents a significant advancement in hunting bullet technology. Engineered for consistent, controlled expansion at every practical hunting distance, these bullets combine cutting-edge aerodynamics with proven stopping power.
Hornady's revolutionary Heat Shield tip solves a problem that has plagued high-ballistic-coefficient bullets for years: aerodynamic heating. At extended ranges, conventional polymer tips melt and deform in flight, degrading accuracy and reducing ballistic coefficient. The Heat Shield tip is engineered from a heat-resistant polymer that maintains its shape throughout the trajectory, preserving the bullet's exceptional ballistic coefficient and accuracy potential.
Close Range (0-400 yards): The thin nose section peels back upon impact, shedding material until reaching the thick jacket shank. The InterLock ring keeps the core and jacket together as the heavy shank drives forward, creating continuous expansion and lethal wound cavities. Typical weight retention: 50-60%.
Extended Range (400+ yards): At lower velocities, the Heat Shield tip drives backward into the nose cavity, initiating controlled expansion. The bullet exhibits conventional mushroom expansion with exceptional weight retention (85-90%) for deep penetration and large wound channels.
Thick jacket shank and high InterLock ring design ensure core and jacket integrity throughout the expansion process. Each box contains 100 component bullets ready for handloading.
Whether you're hunting at moderate distances or pushing the limits of long-range performance, the ELD-X delivers the accuracy and lethality serious hunters demand.
