The Smith & Wesson 686 Plus: American Revolver Excellence
The Model 686 Plus stands as one of the most respected revolvers in the world. Its reputation is earned through decades of reliable service in both law enforcement and civilian hands. This particular example represents the pinnacle of practical revolver design.
Capacity and Caliber
This revolver chambers the potent .357 Magnum cartridge and holds seven rounds—one more than traditional six-shot designs. This extra round provides a genuine advantage in any shooting scenario. The gun accepts both .357 Magnum and .38 Special ammunition, offering flexibility for training and practice.
Construction and Durability
Stainless steel barrel, cylinder, and frame ensure corrosion resistance and longevity. The satin stainless finish resists fingerprints and wear while maintaining a professional appearance. The 3-inch barrel strikes an ideal balance between velocity and handling characteristics.
Sights and Controls
The revolver features a red ramp front sight paired with an adjustable white outline rear sight. These sights are practical and fast to acquire. Single/double action operation provides versatility—you can fire deliberately in double action or cock the hammer for precise single action shots.
Ergonomics
Synthetic grips provide a secure hold and require minimal maintenance. The frame dimensions (8.18 inches in length, 6 inches in height) and 35.8-ounce weight create a revolver that is substantial enough for control yet manageable for extended shooting sessions.
The Verdict
The 686 Plus represents American revolver manufacturing at its finest. Whether you seek a reliable sport shooting platform or a serious defensive tool, this revolver delivers.
