Sierra MatchKing 6.5mm 123-Grain Hollow Point Boat Tail
Sierra's MatchKing bullets represent the pinnacle of target ammunition design. Every aspect of these rounds has been engineered with one goal in mind: delivering match-winning accuracy downrange.
Precision Engineering
These bullets are manufactured to exacting standards that separate them from ordinary ammunition:
- Jacket concentricity: Held to a maximum variation of 0.0003 inches
- Weight tolerance: ±0.3 grain consistency across the box
- Hollow point design: Extremely small meplat for optimized ballistic coefficient
- Boat tail configuration: Minimizes drag and further improves ballistic performance
Performance Characteristics
The 123-grain weight was specifically designed to fill the need for a mid-weight, high-ballistic-coefficient bullet in the increasingly popular 6.5mm cartridges. This round excels at long-range distances:
- Longer ogive profile for enhanced downrange efficiency
- Improved boat tail geometry reduces wind drift
- Sectional density of .252 provides excellent penetration characteristics
- Ballistic coefficients range from .510 at high velocities down to .420 at subsonic speeds
Intended Use
These bullets are purpose-built for target shooting and long-range competition. They are the preferred choice for silhouette shooters and precision rifle competitors worldwide. While MatchKing bullets have occasionally been used for hunting, Sierra does not recommend them for that application due to their design priorities favoring accuracy over expansion.
