Hornady Precision Hunter 6mm ARC 103gr ELD-X

Hornady Precision Hunter 6mm ARC

The 6mm ARC represents a significant advancement in intermediate cartridge performance, delivering capabilities previously unavailable from the AR-15 platform. Hornady's Precision Hunter load harnesses this potential with carefully selected components designed for hunting, match shooting, and personal protection.

Bullet Design

The 103-grain ELD-X (Extremely Low Drag eXpanding) bullet combines several advanced features:

• Heat Shield Tip: Resists aerodynamic heating and maintains shape throughout the trajectory, preserving ballistic coefficient from muzzle to target
• Streamlined Secant Ogive: Optimized aerodynamic profile reduces drag and wind drift
• AMP Jacket: Highly concentric construction ensures consistent performance and accuracy
• InterLock Ring: Mechanical locking system keeps core and jacket together during expansion

Performance Characteristics

The ELD-X bullet delivers velocity-dependent expansion:

• High Velocity (0-400 yards): Bullet expands progressively throughout penetration, creating a large wound cavity
• Low Velocity (400+ yards): Heat Shield tip drives backward into the bullet core to initiate expansion, ensuring reliable performance at distance
• Weight Retention: Controlled expansion with 85-90% retained weight provides deep penetration and consistent terminal performance

Versatility

This ammunition functions equally well in AR-15 platforms and short or micro action bolt guns. The 6mm ARC achieves the ultimate balance of system weight, performance, and shootability—suitable for personal defense, match shooting, hunting, and law enforcement applications.
