Sierra MatchKing .224 77gr Hollow Point Boat Tail
Sierra's 77-grain MatchKing bullets represent the gold standard for competitive rifle shooting. These precision projectiles have established an impressive record of national competition victories and are recognized worldwide for exceptional accuracy.
Design and Performance
The MatchKing's hollow point boat tail design delivers the consistency that competitive shooters demand. The 77-grain weight allows you to seat these bullets at an overall length that fits standard AR-15 and M16 magazines without compromise—a critical advantage for service rifle competition.
Competition Focus
These bullets are purpose-built for service rifle competition in AR-15 and M16 platforms. Their ballistic profile and construction prioritize the accuracy needed to win matches.
Important Considerations
- Not recommended for hunting. MatchKing bullets are match-grade projectiles, not hunting rounds. Their design does not provide the reliable expansion needed for ethical game harvesting.
- Varmint use: While some shooters use MatchKings for varmint work, they will not deliver the explosive expansion of purpose-designed varmint bullets at equivalent velocities.
- Barrel twist requirement: Your rifle must have a 1:8" twist rate or faster to stabilize these bullets properly.
