Primos Baby Hoochie Mama Elk Call
Compact elk call that reproduces authentic calf vocalizations with a higher pitch than cow calls. Easy one-handed operation with push-pin bellows design draws bulls seeking to reunite separated calves with the herd.
The Calf Call Advantage
The Baby Hoochie Mama represents a focused approach to elk hunting strategy. While cow calls are effective, calf vocalizations offer a distinct advantage: they trigger a protective response in bulls and cows alike. Throughout the year, cow and calf elk communicate constantly. When a calf becomes separated, bulls and cows will actively search and respond to bring the young animal back into the herd.
Design and Operation
This compact call maintains the proven design principles of the original Hoochie Mama but in a smaller, more portable package. The push-pin bellows system requires only one hand to operate, allowing you to maintain your rifle position while calling. Simply push the bellows to produce the characteristic sliding notes that define authentic elk language.
Sound Characteristics
Higher Pitch Profile: The Baby Hoochie Mama's elevated pitch perfectly mimics calf vocalizations. This higher frequency is distinctly different from cow calls and carries less intimidation factor—a critical advantage when hunting pressured bulls.
Authentic Reproduction: The call produces the natural sliding notes that elk recognize and respond to instinctively. Bulls that might ignore a cow call often cannot resist investigating a calf in distress.
Why Calf Calls Work
Many hunters overlook calf calling, but experienced elk hunters understand the psychology: a calf call is non-threatening and triggers a herding response. This makes the Baby Hoochie Mama an excellent addition to your calling arsenal, particularly during periods when traditional cow calling has become less effective.
