Savage Axis 2 Pro Western Compact: Modern Hunting Rifle Engineering
The Savage Axis 2 Pro Western Compact represents a thoughtful evolution in hunting rifle design. Chambered in 6mm ARC—a cartridge gaining serious traction among hunters who appreciate efficient, flat-shooting performance—this rifle combines proven mechanical principles with contemporary ergonomics.
Mechanical Excellence
The Action and Trigger The bolt-action design employs thread-in headspacing for precision and reliability. The user-adjustable AccuTrigger allows you to customize pull weight between 2.5 and 6 pounds, accommodating both deliberate hunting shots and faster follow-ups when needed. The updated bolt handle features an ergonomic design that functions smoothly even when wearing gloves or in cold conditions.
Barrel and Accuracy The 20-inch heavy sporter barrel wears a Gun Metal Bronze Cerakote finish—a practical choice that resists corrosion and wear. Threaded for suppressors or muzzle devices (1/2x28 threads), the barrel features a 1:7.5-inch twist rate optimized for 6mm ARC ammunition. A one-piece 0 MOA Picatinny rail provides a solid foundation for optics mounting.
Practical Field Features
- Magazine System: Detachable box magazine (4-round capacity) with ambidextrous release for either-hand operation
- Stock Design: Western camo synthetic stock with ambidextrous palm swells and two QD studs for sling attachment
- Handling: Compact 39.5-inch overall length and 6.8-pound weight make this rifle manageable in brush and from vehicles
- Versatility: The threaded barrel opens options for sound suppression or muzzle brake installation
The 6mm ARC Advantage
This cartridge delivers excellent ballistics in a compact package. It shoots flatter than traditional .308 Winchester while generating less recoil, making it suitable for hunters of varying experience levels and physical stature.
The Axis 2 Pro Western Compact is built for hunters who value reliability, accuracy, and practical ergonomics in the field.
