Sierra 1520 Varminter 6mm 85-Grain Spitzer Bullets

Sierra 1520 Varminter Bullets: Purpose-Built for Precision and Performance

Sierra's Varminter line represents decades of ballistic engineering focused on one goal: delivering consistent, reliable expansion on varmints and small game. The 1520 model in 6mm 85-grain represents the pinnacle of this design philosophy.

Design and Construction

These spitzer-pointed bullets feature a rigidly controlled internal taper and precisely engineered jacket thickness. The thin jacket design promotes rapid expansion while maintaining sufficient structural integrity for the high velocities these cartridges generate. The flat-base design contributes to excellent accuracy and consistent performance across all 6mm rifle platforms.

Performance Characteristics

Ballistic Performance:

• Weight: 85 grains
• Sectional Density: .206
• Ballistic Coefficient: .315 @ 2800 fps and above; .307 between 2800-2200 fps; .304 @ 2200 fps and below

Intended Use:

• Varmints and small game (primary application)
• Small deer and antelope with proper shot placement
• Long-range target competition
• Silhouette competition in handguns

Practical Considerations

While these bullets excel in rifles across all 6mm cartridges, handgun shooters should note that velocities from standard barrels may limit expansion potential. However, they deliver outstanding accuracy and downrange momentum for competitive applications. Proper shot placement remains essential for ethical, effective hunting.
