Ruger American Gen II Prairie: Precision Meets Practicality

The Ruger American Gen II Prairie represents a thoughtful evolution in modern rifle design. This .223 Rem rifle combines proven engineering with practical features that serve both the precision shooter and the field hunter.

Barrel and Action

The heart of this rifle is its cold hammer-forged barrel with a bull contour profile. This design accomplishes two critical objectives: it increases weight forward for superior stability and measurably reduces felt recoil. The 20" barrel features shallow spiral flutes that increase surface area for more efficient cooling during extended shooting sessions.

The barrel wears a professional Smoked Bronze Cerakote finish—a durable, low-maintenance coating applied to the barrel, receiver, muzzle brake, and bolt handle. A factory-installed thread protector comes standard, with the 5/16"-24 threaded muzzle ready for your choice of suppressors or muzzle devices.

Accuracy and Handling

The Ruger Marksman Adjustable trigger offers a crisp, predictable release with pull weight adjustable between 3 and 5 pounds—allowing you to fine-tune the rifle to your preference. The one-piece CNC-machined stainless steel bolt features the familiar three-lug design with a 70° throw, providing ample scope clearance and smooth operation.

Power Bedding integral bedding block technology positively locates the receiver while free-floating the barrel—a proven approach to delivering outstanding accuracy.

Stock and Ergonomics

The black synthetic stock features gray and bronze splatter texturing that provides excellent grip without sharp edges. The soft rubber recoil pad incorporates a large radius heel for easy shouldering and progressive collapse geometry that further reduces felt recoil.

Length of pull is adjustable from 12" to 13.75" by removing or adding spacers—a practical feature for shooters of different builds or when wearing heavier clothing. The installed low comb improves sight alignment with magnified optics but can be removed for low-mounted sights.
