Savage A17 Sporter: Modern Rimfire Performance
Savage Arms has engineered the A17 Sporter as a purpose-built semi-automatic platform for serious rimfire shooters. This rifle represents a significant step forward in magnum rimfire technology, combining reliability with genuine accuracy potential.
Action & Reliability
The delayed blowback action is the heart of this design. Unlike simple blowback systems, this mechanism provides controlled operation with standard 17 HMR loads while maintaining the safety margins shooters demand. The hard chrome bolt and case-hardened receiver are built to withstand extended use without compromise.
Accuracy Features
- Button-rifled barrel: Precision-manufactured 22-inch barrel with 1-in-9 twist rate optimized for 17 HMR ballistics
- AccuTrigger: User-adjustable trigger mechanism delivers a crisp, predictable break for consistent shot placement
- Rotary magazine: 10-round detachable magazine ensures reliable feeding and quick reloads
Ergonomics & Handling
The gray laminate sporter-style stock provides durability and a traditional rifle feel. Sling swivel studs are factory-installed for field carry. The blued sporter-profile barrel balances weight and handling for extended shooting sessions.
Specifications
Overall length of 40.5 inches makes this rifle manageable in the field or at the range. The combination of semi-automatic convenience with magnum rimfire power makes the A17 Sporter an excellent choice for varmint control, target shooting, or small game hunting.
