Magpul Zhukov-U Handguard: Modern Control for AK Rifles
The Zhukov-U represents a thoughtful evolution of Magpul's proven Zhukov handguard design. By trimming 1.5 inches from the original length, Magpul created a handguard that works equally well on short-barreled AK pistols and full-length rifles without sacrificing the ergonomic advantages of modern shooting technique.
Key Features
- Compact Design: Shorter profile accommodates barrels as short as 11.5 inches while maintaining proper sight radius
- Dual-Material Construction: Hard-anodized aluminum chassis provides strength and heat dissipation; injection-molded polymer exterior offers comfort and control
- M-LOK Compatibility: Slots at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions accept M-LOK accessories and Picatinny rail sections
- Integrated Heat Shield: Protects your hand from barrel heat during extended shooting sessions
- Military Rod Accommodation: Shorter length allows use of standard AK cleaning rods without modification
- UltiMAK Compatible: Works with UltiMAK gas tube optics mounts and includes replacement polymer top cover
Installation Notes
The Zhukov-U requires permanent removal of the factory handguard retaining cap and forward sling mount. Verify your barrel diameter falls between 16.75–18.25 millimeters before modification. Not compatible with Yugo-pattern or RPK-style receivers.
