Mossberg Patriot 400 Legend: Modern Hunting Rifle Engineering
The Mossberg Patriot represents a thoughtful approach to modern rifle design, combining proven mechanical principles with contemporary manufacturing. This 400 Legend model delivers the ballistic performance hunters expect with the handling characteristics that matter in the field.
Barrel and Accuracy
Free-floated, button-rifled construction ensures consistent accuracy shot after shot. The fluted barrel design reduces weight without sacrificing rigidity—a practical advantage when you're covering ground in pursuit of game. The recessed crown protects the barrel's critical muzzle from damage while maintaining precision. At 20 inches, the barrel strikes an intelligent balance: long enough to develop full velocity from the 400 Legend cartridge, yet short enough for quick handling in thick cover where most hunting actually occurs.
Action and Handling
The spiral-fluted bolt features an ergonomic design that respects the shooter's anatomy. The knurled bolt handle provides positive grip for swift cycling and follow-up shots. The box-magazine system makes loading, unloading, and magazine changes straightforward—no fussing with single-feed systems in the field.
