Spyderco's Retract features a distinctive 3.4" curved recurve blade in 9Cr18MoV steel with full-flat-ground geometry. G-10 handle scales, stainless steel liners, and reliable LinerLock mechanism make this Ed Schempp design a versatile cutting tool.
Designed by renowned custom knifemaker Ed Schempp, the Retract is a folding knife that stands apart from conventional designs. Its most striking feature is the dramatically curved, full-flat-ground blade that draws inspiration from traditional Nepalese kukri knives.
The 3.4" recurved blade is crafted from 9Cr18MoV stainless steel. The negative angle of the curve significantly enhances cutting leverage, particularly on draw cuts—a feature that makes this knife exceptionally efficient for slicing tasks. The full-flat-ground geometry contributes to both cutting performance and visual appeal.
The handle combines several materials for strength and control:
The stout liners support a reliable LinerLock mechanism, machined nearly flush to prevent unintentional closure. The knife includes a reversible deep-pocket wire clip for left- or right-side tip-up carry, and a lined lanyard hole for additional security. At 7.79" overall length, the Retract balances low-profile carry with immediate access when you need it.
