Springfield Armory XD9801 Sub-Compact 9mm Pistol

The XD sub-compact 9mm represents a refined approach to personal defense and everyday carry. This California-compliant model delivers the ergonomic excellence and safety features that made the XD platform an industry standard.

Safety Features

The XD incorporates multiple independent safety systems:

• Grip Safety: Prevents accidental discharge if the firearm is dropped or mishandled
• Ultra Safety Assurance (USA) Action Trigger System: Provides consistent trigger performance with integrated safety
• Firing Pin Block Safety: Prevents unintended firing
• Loaded Chamber Indicator: Visual and tactile confirmation of chambered round status
• Striker Status Indicator: Shows whether the firing mechanism is cocked

Mechanical Design

The XD9801 features a 3-inch hammer-forged steel barrel with a 1:10 twist rate, optimized for 9mm ammunition. The forged steel slide and barrel both receive a durable Melonite finish, providing excellent corrosion resistance in harsh environments.

A full-length guide rod and dual-spring recoil system manage recoil impulse effectively, contributing to controllability and longevity.

Practical Features

• Sights: Steel white dot three-dot sight system for rapid target acquisition
• Picatinny Rail: Allows mounting of tactical lights or laser systems
• Ambidextrous Magazine Release: Operates smoothly for both left and right-handed shooters
• Magazine Capacity: 10-round magazines (two included)
• Overall Length: 6.25 inches—compact enough for concealment, substantial enough for control
• Frame: Black polymer construction reduces weight while maintaining durability

Ideal For

This sub-compact 9mm serves well as a defensive carry pistol, home defense tool, or backup firearm. The XD platform's reputation for reliability and ease of operation makes it an excellent choice for both experienced shooters and those new to firearms.
