Savage Axis 2 Pro: Compact Precision for the Modern Hunter
The Savage Axis 2 Pro represents a thoughtful evolution in affordable, reliable hunting rifles. This compact .308 Winchester delivers the power needed for big game hunting in a package that handles well in tight quarters—whether you're navigating thick timber or working from a blind.
Barrel and Action
The 20-inch heavy sporter barrel features spiral fluting for reduced weight and improved heat dissipation. A Gun Metal Bronze Cerakote finish protects against the elements while maintaining a professional appearance. The barrel is threaded (5/8x24) for suppressors or muzzle devices, giving you flexibility in how you configure the rifle for your hunting situation.
The bolt-action design is straightforward and reliable. An updated bolt handle with ergonomic shaping makes cycling smooth and efficient, while the side bolt release provides intuitive operation.
Trigger and Controls
The user-adjustable AccuTrigger is a genuine advantage at this price point. You can fine-tune trigger pull weight from 2.5 to 6 pounds, allowing you to dial in the crisp break you prefer. Ambidextrous magazine release and safety controls serve both left and right-handed shooters.
Stock and Ergonomics
The Forest SP camo synthetic stock features ambidextrous palm swells for confident grip and control. A textured coating enhances purchase in wet conditions. Two quick-detach sling studs (black) are positioned for standard sling attachment. The sporter-profile stock balances comfort with a classic hunting rifle feel.
Accuracy and Mounting
A one-piece 0 MOA Picatinny rail provides a solid foundation for optics. The detachable box magazine holds four rounds and feeds reliably. At 6.74 pounds and 39.5 inches overall, this rifle points naturally and carries comfortably all day.
The Bottom Line
The Axis 2 Pro Forest SP Compact is a no-nonsense hunting rifle that respects your budget without compromising on the features that matter: accuracy, reliability, and thoughtful ergonomics. It's an excellent choice for hunters who value function over flash.
