Springfield Armory has reimagined the venerable 1911 platform with the Prodigy, a double-stack 9mm that delivers modern capacity without sacrificing the ergonomics and shootability that made the 1911 legendary.

Design and Construction

The Prodigy features a billet 7075-T6 aluminum frame paired with a forged carbon steel slide, both finished in black Cerakote for durability and aesthetics. The match-grade bull barrel is 4.25 inches of forged stainless steel with a 1:16 twist rate, optimized for 9mm performance. A two-piece full-length guide rod manages recoil with precision.

Capacity and Handling

The double-stack polymer grip module delivers 15+1 rounds of 9mm capacity—a significant advantage over traditional single-stack 1911s. Despite this increase, the Prodigy maintains the classic 1911 ergonomics and controls that shooters know and trust.

Optics and Sights

This Gear Pac model ships with a factory-installed Viridian RFX11-A green dot sight featuring Instant-On technology and a 30,000-hour runtime. Tritium front sights and a serrated rear sight provide backup aiming solutions.
